This is the original mother plate set used to press all 200 copies of T. Nguyen’s 2021 self-titled vinyl release. Manufactured in Poland, these are the only two of their kind — metal electroplates that served as the molds from which every copy of this record was physically stamped. Both have since been retired, individually framed, and are now offered exclusively as a set.

What Is a Mother Plate?

In vinyl record manufacturing, the “mother” is a metal electroplate derived from the original lacquer master. It is an exact mirror-image of the final record — not meant to be played, but to produce the stampers that physically press grooves into vinyl under hydraulic pressure.

Creating a mother involves electroplating: a multi-step chemical process using silver and nickel baths. For this release, a 2-step process was used — the lacquer master was plated to create the father, which was then plated to create these mothers. The mothers were then used to produce the stampers that pressed every single copy of this record.

When you own these plates, you own the origin of the pressing run.

The Record

The 2021 self-titled vinyl release is a six-track album by T. Nguyen — composer, producer, and founder of OutOfPrint Recordings, Brooklyn. The record is a document of process, continuity, and long-form creative practice. Accompanied by a philosophical booklet exploring discomfort, perseverance, and forgiveness as structural tools rather than abstract ideals.
